SPIN ME A YARN
Following the sell out of its first knitting book, Best Yarn Forward, Feed The Children UK has produced a worthy follow up, Next Best Yarn, with patterns from top designers. The book raises funds for Feed The Children and many knitters donate finished clothes to the charity including sending a donation with the item to help with shipping costs.
“Feed The Children’s knitting supporters are so important to our humanitarian work that our second knitting book, Next Best Yarn, has just gone on sale and the newsletter, Knitting Knews, is being mailed out to all our knitting contributors and is available on line at www.feedthechildren.org.uk.,” says chief executive officer, Brian Main.
Next Best Yarn costs just £3.50 with £1.50 for postage and includes patterns by professional knitting designers Heather Cawte and Mary-Louise Quick. Mary Louise’s design is a pretty, feminine top for a girl and Heather’s is a warm and practical jumper for a boy. The two designs appeared in Feed The Children’s first book but were included in the second book due to popular demand by the many people who missed out on a copy of Best Yarn Forward.
Other contributions include a V-neck school jumper by Rita Gulliver. The pattern is particularly ingenious because it can be knitted in 4-play or double knit. Jumpers for school are especially needed in the communities Feed The Children supports, where families struggle to equip their children with basic school needs. There are also lots of blanket ideas from some of Feed The Children’s army of blanket knitters. “A blanket doesn’t have to be boring!” says Feed The Children’s marketing co-ordinator, Kim Tame. “It can be as colourful and creative as you like. We feature some of the beautiful ideas people have produced for us over the years, for inspiration.”
Knitting fundraising ideas in the book include Anna Garde’s chunky bed socks, Val Pierce’s cute baby elephant, Carol Warrington’s crocheted cross bookmark and Kim Tame’s mini hats for Easter eggs – Goth and Space invader motifs included, or you could try a moody black hoody.
Next Best Yarn is available from Feed The Children on 0118 932 0095 or online at www.feedthechildren.org.uk. The price is £3.50 and postage is £1.50. For subsequent books, the postage reduces to 50p so savings can be made on more than one copy is bought.
The profits from all sales of Next Best Yarn will directly benefit Feed The Children’s overseas and UK programmes. The charity believes that wherever in the world there is famine, conflict, disease or poverty, it is always the children who are most vulnerable. |
