CUBS AND BEAVERS’ SUPPORT FOR FEED THE CHILDREN’S SHOEBOX APPEAL

Cubs and Beavers Shoe Box Appeal

Cubs and Beavers from St. James’ Church Wollaston, got their Christmas shopping off to an early start this year, when they supported Feed The Children (UK)’s Education Shoebox Appeal. The charity is sending education aid to some of the World’s poorest children by making up Education Shoe Boxes and they need lots of help.

The shoeboxes, which are eagerly awaited by the children being helped by the charity’s projects across the developing World, contained items like pens, pencils, crayons, exercise books and small toys and personal toiletries.

Joy Cartwright, regional fundraising manager for Feed The Children said, “It was great to see what a fantastic job Martin Jones, the leaders and children have done.  Because of their splendid efforts we were able to take almost 40 boxes of aid to children who live in abject poverty. Martin’s own children were involved in the appeal last year and we were really thrilled when the other boys decided to join them this year.  The children gave us a fabulous donation of £80 too to help with transport costs.

“In some countries in Africa, parents have to make a choice to feed their child or to pay for their education.  Everything that is needed for school has to be bought and for many families, it’s just too expensive,” continues Joy. “Shoeboxes are a wonderful way for children to give a gift to a child in need.  It’s personal, and private and all the children were able to put a little note in their box saying that they hoped the contents would help the children receiving them.

Feed The Children works with children all over the developing world, so an educational shoebox can be used by all children, not just those that celebrate Christmas.
