VALUATION FEES FOR FEED THE CHILDREN (UK)

A porcelain pig and a military helmet helped to raise over £300 at a Bonham’s antiques valuation morning at Sonning Common Village Hall on Wednesday (27th October) for Feed The Children (UK).

A steady stream of visitors paid £2 per item as they took their family heirlooms and other items of interest to be valued by two experts, Mark Dance and Guy Haskell, from Bonhams Auctioneers Henley offices (www.bonhams.com).

“The event, which was bit like a mini Antiques Roadshow, was the third that we have held for Feed The Children,” said volunteer organiser, Sue Nickson. “We are really grateful to Bonhams, especially Mark and Guy, who were kept busy throughout the morning as a varied array of items underwent their expert scrutiny and appraisal.”

The valuation morning attracted paintings, statues, clocks, an ancient military helmet a very large porcelain pig and many other unusual and unique pieces. Inevitably some proud owners faced disappointment as their items were values at much less than anticipated, but it was all taken in good spirit.  The porcelain pig would have been worth over £2,000 had it been in perfect condition, but in practice it received a valuation of £200 to £300. Several of the items presented to the valuers were later submitted to Bonhams for sale.

The money was made on items valued, the sale of cards, a raffle, and refreshments whilst people waited for their items to be valued.
